The Invisible Enemy

I was thinking it interesting that some of our government leaders when referring to the Coronavirus, use terms like “Invisible Enemy”. They go on to warn that we all must use extreme caution when out and about because it’s an enemy that wants to infect us in any way possible. They warn of following after the crowds because contamination can come through one’s mouth, nose, and even our eyes (hint, hint). They warn of the risks of bringing it into our homes and infecting our families as well.

Because it’s airborne, it could infect us through the air around us. Therefore, some encourage filtering with N95 masks. The virus can be on food packages or supplies we buy, books and magazines we read, even the mail. We can even pick it up on our shoes and clothing.

True, we may never get it ourselves, or if we do, it could be that the symptoms seem mild or nonexistent. However, we could be carriers potentially infecting others around us. So, we are instructed to be careful when out in the world, to carry hand sanitizer, and to wash our hands often. In very solemn ways, they warn of the potential that up to half of our population could get infected and some will die, so stay alert. Lately, they have even been encouraging people to pray.

These instructions come in “special alerts,” “press conferences,” and “briefings” because they are unusual, even unprecedented, and physically speaking, very serious. We need to be praying for everyone in our nation and around the world. This is a terrible disease and may God bring it to an end.

However, for Christians, these recent urgent instructions should be familiar because we do, in fact, have an “invisible enemy.” Ephesians 2:2 describes him as “the prince of the power of the air,” and believers should be alert at all times. The enemy will try to infect us by any means.

We should always avoid following the crowds, we should filter the airwaves, discern the things we buy, the books and magazine we read, and the things we bring into our homes that could infect our families. Even if we’re not specifically infected by a particular “spiritual virus,” or don’t realize we are, they may cling to us, or we may spread it to others by our attitude and moods.

Either physically or spiritually, the solution is the same. We must stay alert, knowing that our true enemy “is like a roaring lion roaming to and fro, seeking whom he may devour (1st Peter 5:8).” So let’s remain careful of what we put our hands to, what we take in through our eyes, and what we allow in our homes. And may our attitudes always be of humility, thanksgiving, and gratitude toward our Great God and Savior.

The greater disease to avoid in our world is the very infectious disease of sin. It seeks not to settle into our lungs, but into our hearts and minds. We must always continue to sanitize with the washing of the water with the word (Ephesians 5:26) and keep up on our spiritual immunizations of prayer and repentance, and always keep our appointments with the Great Physician Yeshua.

May God bless and keep you all!

With much Love,
Art & Anna Lu
